Cuando vuelo con compañeros o alumnos piloto, muchas veces me fijo en cómo se colocan el cinturón de vuelo. Incluso cuando lo hago como pasajero, me fijo en el cinturón de otros pasajeros.
Lo cierto es que muchos nos colocamos el cinturón y los atalajes de forma incorrecta, y me incluyo yo mismo.
Lo más habitual es dejarlos con demasiada holgura para que nos «moleste» lo menos posible. Pero esto casi anula el efecto protector del cinturón. Dejarlo demasiado holgado puede provocar que en una turbulencia choquemos contra el techo. En esta circunstancia podríamos dañarnos la cabeza o el cuello con relativa facilidad, puesto que el cinturón no nos mantiene suficientemente pegado al asiento para evitar salir despedido hacia arriba.
Y no hablemos de sufrir un accidente… donde tenerlo «flojo» puede hacer que sencillamente salgamos disparados hacia cualquier lugar sin control. ¡Un verdadero peligro!
El uso del arnés
En el otro lado, suelen estar los «precavidos», los «temerosos» o los que piensan que se están colocando el paracaídas en vez del cinturón. No son demasiados, pero también existen.
Está claro que este grupo no saldrá despedido, ni chocará contra el techo en una turbulencia, pero se expone a otros problemas. Por ejemplo, no tener una buena circulación en las piernas, lo que puede provocar hormigueo o que se «duerman» las piernas. También puede provocar rozaduras en la epidermis por culpa del cinturón.
Si vuelas en una avioneta y eres el piloto al mando, trata de dedicar un minuto a comprobar si tú y tus pasajeros lleváis el cinturón correctamente colocado. Así evitarás una u otra posición incorrecta.
Si vas como pasajero en un vuelo, puedes recomendarle al pasajero de al lado que haga un uso más adecuado del cinturón, explicando los motivos para hacerlo.
Recuerda también la recomendación de estar durante todas las fases de vuelo con el cinturón puesto. Esto es en previsión de posibles turbulencias o problemas inesperados.
